Position Summary

Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center is seeking enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative Teaching Artists to join our Education team.

Teaching Artists work with children and teens in a variety of performing arts programs, including acting, musical theatre, dance, vocal performance, improvisation, storytelling, and theatre games. We want to connect with experienced educators and performing artists who are passionate about helping young people build creativity, confidence, teamwork, and performance skills.


Responsibilities:

Teaching Artists may be responsible for:

  • Planning and leading engaging, age-appropriate performing arts classes
  • Creating lessons that balance skill development, creativity, and fun
  • Fostering a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Preparing students for showcases, concerts, or final performances, as applicable
  • Communicating professionally with Uptown staff and participating families
  • Attending all scheduled classes, rehearsals, and performances associated with their assigned program

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience teaching or working with children and teens
  • Training or professional experience in theatre, music, dance, or another performing arts discipline
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills
  • A collaborative and dependable approach
  • A commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive arts experiences

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Uptown. With a small behind-the-scenes staff, we rely on a passionate group of community members to help bring each performance to life.

Most volunteer opportunities take place during performances. greeting guests, ushering, assisting with setup and cleanup—but we also need help with projects like mailings, distributing marketing materials, and spreading the word throughout the community.

Volunteering at Uptown is more than just lending a hand, it’s about building friendships, being part of something exciting, and helping the arts thrive in West Chester.
