Finding Nemo, Jr.

Auditions: February 4th; 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
(Finding Nemo Jr. is designed for students in grades 3-8)
Callbacks: February 7th; 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Cost: $475

Should you be cast, Finding Nemo Jr. needs to be your Primary Focus for the spring, second only to school work. Should you not be able to devote this kind of attention, please consider our many Fall and Winter classes or Summer camps which all end in a performance.

Synopsis: Disney’s Finding Nemo JR. is a musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves.

Please prepare the following:

  • A 32-measure cut of a song that demonstrates your strongest vocal range and ability to interpret a song. Feel free to sing a song from the show or something you love from another show in a similar style to Finding Nemo.
  • A one-minute, age-appropriate monologue that allows us to see who you are. Should you need help finding a monologue, email Therese at therese@uptownwestchester.org, and she will email you a few monologues to choose from. Make sure you share your grade and gender preference when requesting a monologue recommendation.

An accompanist will be provided at your audition.

  • Your sheet music in a binder and in the key you wish to sing your song in.
  • Your picture and resume stapled together. (Picture can be your headshot or a snapshot. Resume can be a theatrical resume or a piece of paper with a list of shows and training you have been involved in.)
  • Be prepared to list ALL conflicts with our rehearsal and show schedule. Should your conflicts change during the course of rehearsal, let your stage manager know ASAP. Your new conflicts could result in losing your place in the show. (Conflicts should include your mandatory chorus and band rehearsals and concerts, which are listed on school calendars.)

Finding Nemo, Jr. Roles

The vocal keys for all songs will be adjusted to suit the actor playing the roles.

Nemo is a curious young clownfish who brims with excitement to explore the wonders that lie beyond the Great Barrier Reef. Born with a “lucky fin” – or what humans would call a limb difference. Nemo quickly learns that the world possesses incredible dangers in addition to the promise of big adventures. By making new friends, finding strength within, and practicing teamwork, Nemo transforms into a capable and brave leader, able to self-advocate and take on challenges big and small.

Marlin is an anxious clownfish and Nemo’s overprotective father, who, after the tragic death of his wife Coral, prefers the safety of his anemone to the frightening unknowns of the open ocean. Forced to travel across the sea in search of Nemo, Marlin develops the courage to face the unpredictable ocean and the wisdom to trust others – including his own kid.

Vocal range: C4-Eb5

Dory is an optimistic and bubbly blue tang, experiences frequent short-term memory loss and finds herself wandering through the ocean with no place to call home. Sparking friendships with whomever she meets, Dory immediately offers to help Marlin find his lost child, and the two set out on an adventurous journey through the ocean. Along the way, Dory’s kindness and bright spirit ease Marlin’s fears, and the unlikely duo finds comfort and family in each other.

Coral is a loving mother-to-be clownfish, married to Marlin, who will stop at nothing to protect her eggs. Will join the ensemble for the second half of the show.

The Sea Chorus functions as the general ensemble, creating the environment of the play and becoming the characters that Marlin and Dory interact with on their journey to Sydney. They will also help with the transitions from the Ocean to the Aquarium Tank. Roles include: Angelfish, Damselfish, Barracuda, Moonfish 1-6, Jellyfish, Sea Turtles, Grouper, Lobsters (1 & 2), Octopuses (1 & 2), Electric Eels (1 & 2), & Seahorses (1 & 2).

Nemo’s classmates. Roles include:

Pearl, a friendly flapjack octopus who is, quick to befriend Nemo.

Sheldon, an H2O-intolerant seahorse with an appetite for trouble who taunts Nemo to swim beyond the reef.

Tad, a self-admittedly obnoxious butterflyfish who joins Sheldon in encouraging Nemo to swim past the Drop-Off.

Professor Ray is a stingray and Nemo’s enthusiastic teacher, takes pride in sharing the curiosities and marvels of the world with the class and encourages every student to be a brave explorer.

Scuba Mask Dancer is a performer responsible for floating the diver’s mask through the water whenever it appears onstage.

Gender: Any

Bruce is an intimidating great white shark, is the sharks’ ringleader. Despite Bruce’s best efforts to adopt a vegetarian diet, Bruce loses control and is sent into a frenzy, threatening to devour every fish in sight. Part of the Sharks.

Gender: Any

Chum & Anchor are two of Bruce’s shark friends, try to live vegetarian lifestyles but are eventually forced to restrain an out-of- control Bruce from eating innocent fish. Part of The Sharks.

Fish Friends are forced to attend the sharks’ party but aren’t quite so convinced that their hosts will be satisfied with a kelp-only diet.

Gender: Any

Bubbles is part of the “Tank Gang” that helps Nemo escape the Sydney Harbor Aquarium and return to the ocean. A yellow tang who is captivated by bubbles, is the first to welcome Nemo to the tank. This friendly fish exclusively uses the word “bubbles” to communicate.

Gender: Any

Bloat is part of the “Tank Gang” that helps Nemo escape the Sydney Harbor Aquarium and return to the ocean. An open-minded and supportive blowfish, is proud to be part of the Tank Gang family and helps keep everyone’s spirits up, even when things seem bleak.

Gender: Any

Gurgle is part of the “Tank Gang” that helps Nemo escape the Sydney Harbor Aquarium and return to the ocean. Frightened of strangers and the germs they carry with them, is a royal gramma who enjoys the safety and regulated cleanliness of the tank.

Gender: Any

Peach is part of the “Tank Gang” that helps Nemo escape the Sydney Harbor Aquarium and return to the ocean. A mature and down-to-earth starfish, offers guidance and reassurance to all those who need it.

Gender: Any

Gill is part of the “Tank Gang” that helps Nemo escape the Sydney Harbor Aquarium and return to the ocean. A relentless and inspiring leader who will stop at nothing to return to the freedom of the ocean. This Moorish idol fish believes in the Tank Gang and concocts countless plans to bust them out of the aquarium. Gill is the first fish Nemo has ever met with a similar “fin difference,” quickly becoming a mentor and inspiration for the young clownfish.

Nigel is a sharp-eyed pelican, Nigel is the Tank Gang’s feathered friend and only connection to the outside world. This bird is someone you can count on to know all the latest news on the happenings of Sydney Harbour.

Seagulls are a pesky group of birds who persistently try to snatch an unlucky VACATIONER’s snack on the boardwalk.

Gender: Any

Righteously mellow creatures featured in “Go With the Flow.”

Roles include: Crush, Squirt, Kai, and Breeze.

Crush: a 150-year-old sea turtle who knows how to hang loose, teaches Marlin a thing or two about being a good parent. Look for a strong singer who can confidently belt “Go With the Flow” to make it a truly radical jam.

Squirt: offspring of Crush, fearlessly twirls through turbulent waters of the ocean and enjoys trying out cool new moves in the high-speed EAC.

Kai and Breeze: each have individual singing solos in “Go With the Flow”.

Sister Act

Synopsis: Sister Act is the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Sister Act Roles

Deloris Van Cartier is an aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.

Gender: Female
Vocal range: E3-F#5

Mother Superior is the head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings.

Gender: Female
Vocal range: D3-E5

A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life.

Gender: Female
Vocal range: F#3-A5

Sister Mary Patrick is a nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable.

Gender: Female

Sister Mary Lazarus is a nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris’s soul music.

Monsignor O’hara is one of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood.

Curtis is a club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris’s boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence.

Gender: Male
Vocal Range: A2-Ab4

Eddie Souther is the desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero.

TJ is Curtis’s nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss.

Joey is one of Curtis’s thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man.

Pablo is one of Curtis’s thugs. A natural follower, constantly speaks in Spanish.

Sister Mary Martin-of-tours is a nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world, but has her moments of surprising clarity.

Sister Mary Theresa is a nun of the convent, the oldest of the group, but secretly packs a punch.

Michelle is one of Deloris’s back-up singers. Lippy and always quick with a retort.

Tina is one of Deloris’s back-up singers, she is a little naïve.

Ernie is one of Curtis’s thugs. Initially thought to be a mindless yes-man, he turns out to be an undercover police informant.

The Lightning Thief

Because this is a 3-week summer camp, it is assumed there will be no conflicts with rehearsals or shows. Should there be conflicts, make us aware of them at your audition. New conflicts could result in losing your place in the show.

Synopsis: As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York).

When actors aren’t in the scene, they form the CHORUS, playing the Oracle’s ECHOES, Medusa’s STATUES, THE DEAD in the Underworld, etc.

Uptown Singers, Grades 6-12

The Uptown Singers gives your performer pre-professional musical theatre training, teaching soloists to listen to the lyrics of a song as well as themselves, all while telling a story. The Uptown Singers will create a cabaret-style show of solos, duets and group numbers which is then performed at multiple area locations and events. Performers continue to develop the skill to carry a harmony line, perform a solo of professional quality and dance.

It is recommended that performers take The Singing Artist (formerly WCStudio Singers), or Glee Week camp at least once before auditioning for Uptown! Singers. Admission is by audition only. 

To Audition: Submit a 32 measure video singing a song that highlights your vocal strength and demonstrates your ability to perform and interpret a song by December 1 to therese@uptownwestchester.org. Please sing with a karaoke track or an accompaniment of  some kind. Do not sing A Cappella.

Callbacks: September 5th at 5:00-7:00 pm.  Anyone being called back will need to learn a short harmony and sing it at the callback.  We will also have a short dance call.
