Acting Academy 2, Grades 5-6

This foundational class helps students transition from pretend play to structured stage work. Through scene study, character exploration, improv games, and ensemble-building, students strengthen their acting skills and learn to make purposeful choices on stage. Techniques from influential theatre practitioners such as Viola Spolin and Stanislavski help guide their understanding of motivation, intention, and storytelling.

Teen Acting, Grades 7-12

This advanced class challenges dedicated teen performers to take their craft to the next level. Through theater games, improvisation, script analysis, and scene work, students explore and apply the techniques of acting masters such as Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Viola Spolin, and Stanislavski. Modeled after professional acting studios in NYC and LA, this class emphasizes scene study and encourages a deeper understanding of character, intention, and performance.

The Singing Artist, Grades 5-12

A masterclass-style program for students who want to develop both individual and ensemble vocal skills. With coaching from a director and professional music director, students learn to interpret lyrics, express emotion through song, and deliver polished solo and duet performances with live piano accompaniment. Inspired by the techniques of David Craig. Every performer receives individual vocal and acting instruction with our Musical Director and Director Therese Walden-Murphy.

Uptown Singers, Grades 6-12

 

This audition-only ensemble offers pre-professional training in musical theatre performance. Students refine their vocal technique, harmony, movement, and storytelling skills while building a dynamic cabaret-style show. Featuring solos, duets, and group numbers, Uptown Singers perform throughout the region, gaining real-world experience and stage presence.

It is recommended that performers take The Singing Artist or Glee Week camp at least once before auditioning for Uptown Singers. Admission is by audition only.

To Audition: Performers need to submit a video of a song which highlights their vocal strength and ability to interpret and perform a song.

Submissions need to be received by: Midnight on August 30th. Submit all videos to: therese@uptownwestchester.org

Callbacks: Wednesday, September 3rd from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. Anyone being called back will need to learn a short harmony and sing it at the callback. We will also have a short dance call.

Acting for Camera

Acting for the Camera, Grades 6-12

Fall Session: Learn what it takes to audition for and shoot TV commercials—including how to work with a teleprompter. Students will film a variety of commercial spots with guidance from a professional actor, review their footage, and receive constructive feedback to improve performance. The biggest takeaway? Discovering how to bring your unique personality to the camera.

Winter Session: Dive deeper into the world of film and television acting with a professional actor/director. Students will work on short scripted scenes, review on-camera takes, and make real-time adjustments to strengthen their work. The class also covers audition prep, set etiquette, and how to approach both in-person and virtual castings with confidence.

Audition Prep, Grades 6-12

Master the audition process with expert coaching in monologue development, cold readings, and theatre etiquette. Students will build a performance-ready monologue, create a professional resume, and learn the dos and don’ts of both in-person and virtual auditions. Ideal for those preparing for school, community, or professional theatre, this class culminates in a final performance to showcase each student’s progress and preparation.

MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION PREP, Grades 6-12 – Winter Session Only

Designed to build confidence and readiness for musical theatre auditions, this workshop helps students develop a complete audition portfolio. With guidance from both a director and music director, students learn to mark music, work with accompanists, and select audition cuts (16-bar, 32-bar, and full songs) that highlight their unique strengths. This is a process-focused class with no final performance, allowing students to concentrate on technique, repertoire, and personal growth.

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE, Grades 6-12

Step into the spotlight each week with our Musical Theatre Dance Combo Class! Designed for dancers of all levels, this high-energy class explores a new combination every week, inspired by iconic songs from Broadway’s biggest hits—past and present. Whether you dream of dancing onstage or just want to channel your inner showstopper, this class focuses on storytelling through movement, and classic jazz technique. Come ready to learn, sweat, and shine—because every week is a brand new number!

Improvisation, Grades 7-12

Let your performer discover the joys of improv by utilizing their own innate sense of play, curiosity and authenticity. This fast-paced, supportive class helps students build confidence, spontaneity, and creativity. Through games, short-form scenes, and ensemble activities, students develop quick thinking and strong stage presence—all while having a blast.

Advanced Improv, Grades 7-12
Prerequisite – Improvisation Twice

For experienced students looking to expand their skills in long-form and character-based improv. With professional coaching, students sharpen their comedic timing, deepen their scene work, and build compelling improvised narratives in a collaborative environment.

UPTOWN STUDIO REFUND POLICY

Classes: If you withdraw from a class up to two weeks before the start date, you will receive a credit for the full registration amount, minus a $20 processing fee. This credit can be applied to a future Uptown Studio class or camp. No credits or refunds will be issued after this period. Credits are valid only for Uptown Studio classes and camps and cannot be used for performance tickets at Uptown.

Summer Camps: If you withdraw before May 15, you will receive a credit for the full registration amount, minus a $50 processing fee, to be applied to a future Uptown Studio class or camp. After May 15, no credits or refunds will be issued. Credits are valid only for Uptown Studio classes and camps and cannot be used for performance tickets at Uptown.

Returned Checks: A $45 fee will apply to any returned checks.

Please note: Uptown Studio does not issue refunds. Credits towards future classes or camps are the only form of compensation offered.
