Classical Happy Hour
Join Listening In! musicians to experience two masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire at the historically appropriate listening space of Uptown! These compositions are known for pushing the envelope of the genre and expression of quartets. The remarkable op. 20 quartets by Haydn transformed the string quartet genre, earning him the nickname, the “father of string quartet.” As Mendelssohn’s first published quartet, op. 12 demonstrates the composer’s dramatic and lyrical styles common in his instrumental works. Audiences are invited to listen in and take active part in a musical journey, exploring worlds inside and out.
