The Art of Marriage
Work by Angela Scully and George Elser

Drawn by their interest in politics, Angela and George met in 1982 in Philadelphia on the reelection campaign of Senator John Heinz, and have now been married for 38 years.

While they continue to share an interest in politics, their friends and families can attest they do not always share political positions and have very different personalities and ways of approaching things.  One reads directions first while the other dives right in.  By looking at the art, can you tell which is which?

While neither studied art in school, they both started making art as adults.  Just as they have different personalities, they have different ways of expressing themselves artistically. However, one thing they do have in common is that they both love working with color and make it an important part of their paintings.  They also enjoy encouraging each other and sharing their work with others, and are honored to have been asked to show their work together at Uptown!

Angela recently retired, having been the Executive Director of various area arts organizations including Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center.  She continues to help non-profits as a consultant on management and leadership.  George is a lawyer and mediator who works in land conservation and horse-related projects, and helps families as they settle their estates.
