Jazz Cocktail Hour:

V. Shayne Frederick & Ella Gahnt

Thursday, September 20, 2018 6:30pm

Together, V. Shayne Frederick and Ella Gahnt tell stories in songs written and made famous by the best songwriters and singers in the world.

V. Shayne Frederick
Cited by the Broad Street Review as “one of the region’s busiest and best jazz singers,” and by All About Jazz as “one to watch” and a “shining light,” V. Shayne’s singular voice, with its dulcet texture and substantial range, has a classic appeal with a bright, innovative flair.

Pianist, vocalist, arranger and musical director with over a decade of stunning performance, V. Shayne has been featured at such illustrious venues as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Barnes Foundation, SugarHouse Casino, Suzanne Roberts Theater, Resorts Casino, Valley Forge Casino, Philadelphia Clef Club for Performing Arts, South Jazz Parlor, World Café Live, Kelsey’s Supper Club in Atlantic City, and the African-American Museum in Philadelphia. He has also been featured in the John Coltrane Jazz Festival, Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Arts Festival, and the Piton International Film Festival. His October performance at Uptown! sold out and quickly earned him a new following of suburban jazz fans.

Ella Gahnt is vocalist in the jazz/traditional pop style who has performed with some of the most talented musicians in the quad-state area. She’s worked professionally as a studio vocalist/performer for many years in public and private venues around the area. Some of her most memorable performance sites include the Painted Bride, the Philly Fall Festival of Jazz at WHYY-TV’s Forum Theatre, Haverford College, Temple University and The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts. Gahnt believes that her job as a vocalist is to convey an interpretation of the songwriter’s story to the audience with as much emotion, clarity, beauty, and technique as possible.
