Uptown! Entertainment Alliance Receives Significant Donation from Univest Corporation

Uptown! Entertainment Alliance (UEA) has received a $100,000
contribution from Univest Corporation in support of its efforts to purchase,
preserve and transform the National Guard Armory in West Chester as a theater
for film and live performance.  In
recognition of this very generous donation the upstairs rehearsal and events space
in the new theater will be named after Univest Corporation.

 “Univest has been a long-time
supporter of the arts and culture right here within the communities we serve
and we are proud to partner with Uptown! Entertainment Alliance to make this
possible,” said Jeff Schweitzer, president and chief executive officer of
Univest Corporation and Univest Bank and Trust Co.  “The arts have the power to inspire, educate
and delight us, and they are important contributors to the livability and
vibrancy of a community.  We look forward
to enjoying the performances that will be shared through this incredible
facility with our neighbors in West Chester and the surrounding community.”

Tom
McEvoy, Uptown’s Board President said of Univest’s donation, “We are
grateful for Univest’s leadership and generosity as well as for their
investment in the future of Chester County.

Uptown! Entertainment Alliance was established in 2010 with the goal of bringing a theater to West
Chester creating a cultural hub for individuals and families within walking
distance to West Chester’s lively restaurant and shopping district.   UEA has an agreement from the State of
Pennsylvania to purchase the building and is currently in the zoning process to
[reserve and renovate the building as a theater. Uptown has hired Homsey
Architects to design the theater, Bancroft Construction to manage the project
and Clair Solutions to design the lighting and audio for the theater.  Uptown is in the midst of a $3.75 million
capital campaign and to date $2.1 million has been raised in support of this
project.

The
completed theater will serve as a permanent community presence for the
performing arts and is a unique opportunity to bring a theater back to downtown
West Chester. For additional information on Uptown! Entertainment Alliance and
its efforts to transform the Armory as a mixed use theater visit www.uptownwestchester.org.
